Moktavarium champion of the BPC 2024 (€200,000)
On Saturday evening, after validating his ticket for the final, Rayane Mokhtar told us that the Circus Casino Resort in Namur was his favorite establishment. There's no reason why his feelings should have changed this Sunday in Namur after his triumph in the Belgian Poker Challenge 2024.
"I really enjoy playing here, the atmosphere helps me to keep my emotions in check... I appreciate moments like this even more, I'm thoroughly enjoying it," he said ahead of the final.
Moktavarium succeeds Omar Lakhdari and wins the BPC 2024, which brought together 1,259 entrants... with humility and a big, unstable player's smile. "Can we sign up for €550, I'm still hungry for cards?" the winner asked seriously and directly just after the final river.
"I'm ecstatic even if I don't express it much... winning at home, I'm super happy, it gives me pleasure, enormous pleasure," added Rayane a minute later, time enough to greet Miroslav Alilovic, runner-up for €127,000. "I'm at a loss for words, but winning here is great, Namur is the casino where I love to play," continued the winner.
The champion thus pockets €200,000 and a €2,200 CPS Main Event ticket, without a deal since the two last protagonists failed to reach an agreement. It's Rayane's biggest career win and second live success... his previous one time was when he won the SuperSide WaSOP for €50,000, right here in Namur. "Winning this BPC is an achievement, but the financial security was built on a process, it's the continuity of a job," says the champion before paying a long tribute.
"There was a lot of preparation at the end of Day 4... thanks to my coaches and the group I'm working with at the moment, they'll recognize each other, when I got back last night I did a few simulations which enabled me to avoid a few pitfalls [....] I'm very happy to be in this group, I'm well surrounded by talented people but above all hard workers, they're generous, they're the ones who won... I'm just the relay of this group work even if I'm the one who has the trophy. I insist they are my greatest asset, they will recognize themselves", developed the boss of the BPC 2024 before talking about technique and mental skills.
Moktavarium was inexhaustible on the contribution of this group, his critical eye enabling him to move forward. A seeker of life, Rayane Mokhtar left nothing to chance to capture his finest victory. "It was a tough final to tackle, we had to let the chipleader do the work, not swim against the tide... Miro did the job", Rayane slipped in. Not one to throw flowers at himself, Rayane was happy to point the spotlight on those who have made him the player he is, and "wasn't shying away from the pleasure" of having won.
"The direct result doesn't correlate with any lessons... it's hard for me to be proud, even if I know where the roots of this success lie", said the humble champion, "only too happy to have played against players of this caliber", thinking in particular of Konstantin Faerber (3rd for €90,200, ed.).
"I'm not setting myself any goals [...] but just to play in this kind of final with so much at stake, with such an incredible structure, is a pleasure. When you go all the way, there's no adjective to describe it," concluded Rayane Mokhtar. Bravo champion, it's time to savor... but not for too long. Rayane Mokhtar is indeed an unstoppable champion, as he concluded the interview with one last nugget.
"It's time to party a little but not too much, see you tomorrow for the 250€ PKO"... even the winner of the pricnipal tournament knows that there are still tournaments to be played on this BPC festival. See you on Monday for the end of the Mystery Bounty and the final ancillary tournaments!
