Coverage of Day 1A of the WaSOP XII Main Event

Welcome to our coverage of the WaSOP XII Main Event. Before we get into the fabulous tournament that will keep us busy throughout the weekend, let's take a look at some history to whet your appetite.

This will be the 12th edition of the WaSOP Main Event, whose buy-in has stabilized at €550 since the 3rd edition (€525 for edition II, won by Carlos Lopes).

Last year, we recall Bayer Demirci 's fine victory over Philippe Riminucci in a tournament that came close to the 1,000 mark, with 990 entries counted on the Main Event.

Organizers are secretly hoping to break the 4-figure barrier for the WaSOP XII Main Event. For now, with over 200 players already on Day 1A after two hours of play, we're on the right track.

A taste of the record on Day 1A of the Main Event

Parallel to Day 2 of the High-Roller, Day 1A of the Main Event took place in the main hall, and to say the least, the WaSOP XII main event is off to a flying start.

Indeed, 354 entries were counted on Day 1A, already more than on the 2022 edition (331 entries), bearing in mind that 6 Day 1s are scheduled this year (including Day 1F contested in Flip & Go) and that a €500,000 guarantee has been promised by the organizers, who are therefore hoping to beat the record of 990 entries. 

At the end of Day 1A, 83 players had booked their ticket for Day 2, with special mention going to Cornelis Vermeulen, who bagged up 595,000 chips to take the chipleader's seat.

Jonas Ten Cate, Faruk Tach, Quentin Crutel, Wim Verhaegen and Matthias de Meulder also passed through with comfortable stacks.

Tomorrow, Day 1B of the Main Event starts at 2pm, followed by Day 1C Turbo from 10pm.
