130 players at the start of Day 1E

The fifth of six starting sessions for the €330 WaSOP 2023 SuperSide is off to a flying start at the Circus Casino Resort in Namur. 130 players are seated for the first of ten 50-minute levels.

30,000 chips to play for to join the 158 players already qualified for Monday's Day 2 and take their share of a prizepool of over €250,000. With over 880 entries so far, the guarantee is out!

Registrations and re-entries until the first hand of level 9, around 11.40pm... and last chance to qualify from 10pm on Day 1F Turbo, which will be played with 25-minute levels and late registration until 1.30am!

15:26

Who's there?

20 minutes of play and 173 players now in the running... still no outsider on this ante-free level, the only one of the tournament.

Damien Hupe is in the running, as are Mohand Rechace, François Louis Vlassis, Noah Alem, Samuel Bovy, Danny Covyn, Bryan de Riddere (3rd in WaSOP XI), Mystery Bounty Carnival Festival winner David Debue and 11th WaSOP winner Bayer Demirci....

The provisional attendance of 927 entrants is now approaching the final attendance of the previous edition, which ended with a 3-way deal for €96,000... there'll be big money to be made in the final on Tuesday in Namur!

15:49

Second Wave

The second level begins with an influx of players. 220 players for 227 entries after 50 minutes of play... blinds climb to 100 - 300 (300).

There's now €275,000 in the prizepool. Dalil Masaud, Niels Moerenhout, Christophe de Meulder, Adnan Ekeroglu, Benjamin Fesquet, Sébastien Hetzel, Yvan Marsus, Tony Kiorpes, Jin Naveau, Shana Oyen, Guillaume Navarro, they're all here!

16:13

Skirmishes

235 players in the running for 251 entrants on Day 1E, there's now €280,000 in the prize pool to be shared from Monday onwards on Day 2 of the €330-entry WaSOP SuperSide.

Morgan Poisson has just lost a few feathers to his right-hand neighbor Mohand Rechache. Morgan attempts a 7,000-chip river bet on a 6 2 3 2 Ten board and calls "Ace high" when he's paid. Mohand tables a pair of 4's and climbs to 43,000 while his opponent has only half the starting stack left.

Mathias Moutaoukil is on a rollercoaster ride. Down to 11,000 after a King-King versus Ace-As encounter, he found the Kings to double up, then won a pot by going all-in river on 9 9 5 5 King after a 5,000 bet from his right-hand neighbor in the big blind. This took him up to 34,000 chips for a fresh start.

Shana Oyen is up to 25,000 chips. She opens with a lowjack, is paid by her left-hand neighbor who pays the continuation bet of 1,000 chips before folding a 6,000-chip river bet on a Jack 4 Ten Jack 7 board where the spades are runner-runner.

Giovanni Ventura didn't get off to such a good start, with 9,000 chips in front of him after a two-barrel flop. In position on Aces 9 2 6 Giovanni Ventura sent 4000 to the turn and was check-raised, he quickly gave up...

25 minutes left to play on 100 - 300 (300)...

16:31

4-figure attendance

90 minutes of play since the start, with 10 minutes remaining in the second of the ten levels, and players are still arriving. There are now 238 players in the running for 261 entries, bringing the provisional attendance for the €330 SuperSide to 1,015.

Michel Fajga, Steven Rothheut, Mohamed Razab Sekh, Ismael "Dropkick" Davaine, Sam Hilger, Julien Lecamus, Martin Schneiders, Jean Yip are all in...

Yvan Marsus check-raises all-in on 7 6 8 King with two spades in blind battle, enough to return to the starting stack.

Jean Yip stabbed 2,000 chips on Ace 7 Ten all in clubs to fold two players, including David Debue, and climb to 43,000.

16:50

Dame, Dame, Damien

The third level has begun and the table now shows 247 players in contention for 278 entrants on Day 1E, with registration/re-entries open until 11.40pm!

After a good start, Damien Hupe is down to 37,000 chips after a pair of queens. Open and 3-bet from the cutoff, the founder of Poker One simply pays with queens in the small blind.

Hupe is the only one to pay the continuation bet on Jack 2 6, calling another 4,000 chips on a turn 9 that opens the Clubs. "Not the prettiest," he blurts out on the ace river and his opponent's 8,400 bet... before quickly folding.

The blinds are 200 - 400 (400), and there will be a half-hour break at the end of this level.

17:08

The 300-entry barrier

With just over 20 minutes left to play on 200 - 400 (400), it's time for the traditional half-hour break at the Circus Casino Resort in Namur.

With 301 entries for 246 players on track, the SuperSide is provisionally showing an attendance of 1,055!

The prizepool now stands at almost €300,000...

Still Growing

Level 5 began ten minutes ago, and players are now competing on 400 - 800 (800).

The 1,100-player mark has been passed, the prize pool is now approaching €320,000... and only 245 of the 370 entrants are left in the running on this penultimate opening day.

Meddi Ferrah, Quentin Crutel, Slimane Mamèche and Greg van der Wecken are all seated at the tables, and players continue to arrive as the halfway point of Day 1E approaches.

10 levels are on the program, with a 70-minute dinner break at the end of level 6, at around 8.30pm. Registration is open until 11.40 p.m., after which Day 1F Turbo kicks off at 10 p.m. (with late registration until 1.40 a.m.).

19:45

Quiero Maes

There are 5 minutes left to play before the blinds are increased and we move on to level 6, which will be played on blinds 500 - 1000 (1000).

The table currently shows 221 players in the running for 390 entrants, with the 1,200-player mark approaching...

Mohand Rechache will have to try his luck again to join the 158 players already qualified for Day 2. The same verdict for Dorian Delecault, finished off by Greg van der Weckene, who took advantage of the opportunity to get back on track with a stack of 34,000 chips...

Greg remains far from the average, already at 52,000 chips. Ruben Tach (40,000) and Yoann Argence (25,000) also have work to do!

Things are going better for Jeffrey Godet (80,000), Sébastien Hetzel (100,000), Noah Alem (70,000), Meddi Ferrah (90,000), Quentin Crutel (105,000), Dany Covyn (140,000) and Bryan de Riddere (120,000).

Bart Maes is doing even better. Bart emerged alive and with 190,000 chips from a four-way preflop all-in.

It all started with a limp followed by a 10,000-chip isolation for a third of his stack... in the small blind Bart sent his stack out with 9s to see Steven Rothheut shove his 34,000 chips in the big blind with Ace-King.

The limper went all in with Jacks and the insulator couldn't find the strength not to participate with Queen 9... A doorcard 9 and a board 9 8 5 3 King propelled Bart to the top, his opponents in the rail.

With 3 spades on the turn and the Ace of Spades in hand, Rothheut is still waiting for his flush. Already qualified with 26,000 chips, the Belgian was attempting a special Stack Choice to get a bigger stack on Day 2, but will most likely call it a day on this SuperSide and return on Monday with 8.5 blinds!

20:14

Dinner Break approaching

20 minutes to go before the dinner break... 201 players are still on track, while the table shows 408 entries for Day 1E. There are 1,162 entries on the SuperSide, with registration open until 11.40pm on this penultimate flight!

Sébastien Matrige (25,000), JS Denissa (8,000) and Sam Hilger (34,000) have yet to make the cut, while Giovanni Ventura has just won a big blind battle.

There are 29,000 chips in the pot and the small blind is betting 7,000 on 3 2 King Jack with a flush draw on the turn... Giovanni sends in the couscous for 41,000 chips and stops the move to climb to 77,000 chips after the opponent folds. We won't see a thing!

Meanwhile, Dany Covyn puts on the pressure and makes the most of his 240,000 chips. Open UTG1 at the other end of the table, he 3-bets 6,800 chips and grabs a few more as the opener prefers to wait for a better hand...

20:38

Dinner break

Play resumes at 9.40pm, with 190 players currently in the running (409 entrants).

The average will be 65,000 chips, with €325,000 already in the prizepool and another Day 1F Turbo starting at 10pm. On Day 1E, which resumes at blinds 500 - 1500 (1500), late registration is permitted until the first hand of level 9, at around 11.40pm.

Numerous players known to our services have taken advantage of the first 6 levels to build up a nice stack...

Mathias Moutaoukil and Quentin Crutel jumped in just before the break, and will probably re-enter when they return from the locker room, unless they fork out on the 10 p.m. Turbo...

New Level

Beginning of Level 8, 165 players battle it out over blinds of 1,000 - 1,500 (1,500), with 20 blinds for those re-entering in-extremis.

Sébastien Matrige is right on schedule (85,000°), as is Noah Alem (190,000). WaSOP XII winner Bayer Demirci has yet to get off the ground on this SuperSide (35,000), but he's still less cornered than Dominique Potenza, who has just doubled up with Ace-King against Queen-8 to climb to 5,600 chips.

Ruben Tach has just opened under the gun, with Seb Hetzel on the button and Jeffrey Godet in the big blind. A continuation bet on Jack 3 7 with two spades was enough to win the pot and climb to 70,000 chips. Godet (85,000) and Hetzel (180,000) still have some reserve...

22:50

Let's Go

There's still half an hour to play on 1000 - 1500 (1500), the survivors will then go on break and registration will be closed at the start of level 9.

157 players are still in the running for the package and a ticket for Day 2 on Monday July 31. The counter now shows 430 entries!

JS Denissa is at the back of the pack, orbiting as often as possible to find a double-up. With 10,000 chips, it's not long now. Sam Hilge (45,000), Farukh Tach (23,000), Miguel Coussement (31,000) and Yvan Marsus (28,000) have little room for manoeuvre.

Said Sadallah (50,000) is still in the hunt, while Julien Lecamus (105,000), Manu Poznanski (150,000) and Johnny Nedved (125,000) are on the pace.

Bart Maes on the left (210,000) and Benjamin Fesquet on the right (210,000), with 110,000 chips, Damien Hupé is well surrounded.

Ugo Faggioli is down to 90,000 after a big blind 3-bet that scares everyone away...

23:06

Bustos

"Wait for the Sgo, I'm going to jump too," says Slimane Mamèche as JS Denissa leaves the play area, eliminated after shoving 7 blinds under the gun with Queen Ten of Spades.

The small blind reshoved with Queens and eliminated his opponent despite two spades on the flop. "I've got King but I've lost, he's got no bluff," comments Mamèche at the next table where he's dueling on 3 King 4 6 6.

Slimane bet 10,000 river with 12,000 behind and Halil Karatas pushed him all-in. He pays with Roi 2 and heads for the table games with his buddy... as Karatas reveals Roi Dame to climb to 145,000 chips.

With just under a quarter of an hour to go before the final break of Day 1E, 145 players are still in the running for the 431 entrants to this penultimate flight of the SuperSide.

23:16

Exit

Sébastien Matrige has just doubled up to 140,000 chips, while Quentin Crutel has nothing left.

Hassan Daher opens to 3,000 and Yves Minkhorst calls in MP before Quentin Crutel raises to 11,000 on the button. Both men pay and Hassan is the only one to pay Quentin's 7,000 continuation bet on a Queen 3 5 flop with two hearts.

Quentin Crutel goes all-in for 23,000 on turn 2 of hearts... and Hassan takes a few seconds to check-call with 3 and 4 of diamonds. With Jack Ten and a heart, Quentin is caught red-handed... the river 7 of diamonds ejects him from the tournament.

Hassan Daher climbs to 100,000 chips with 5 minutes to go before the break. 140 players remain as level 8 draws to a close. The break is imminent.

23:29

Last break

The game will resume with at least 136 players for 435 entries on Day 1E... registration will be closed on the resumption of 1000 - 2000 (2000). You'll have to hold two levels of 50 minutes more to get your ticket for Day 2 on Monday July 31. To date, 158 Sesame seeds have been distributed over the first 4 starting days...

Ugo Faggioli just made a big fold with a Full House against Bryan de Riddere, who actually had the superior Full House... Bryan took a nice pot to get above 100 blinds at the start of the final hand...

Martin 'Felix' Schneiders is starting to feel the pinch with 16,000 chips... Miguel Coussement is also in danger, but with 45,000 in chips, he's got a bit to look forward to on 1000 - 2000 (2000).

Last level of Day 1E on blinds 1000 - 2500 (2500)...

Last Level, New Boss

With 30 minutes to go before the end of the day, 108 players are competing in blinds 1000 - 2500 (2500) with an average of 119,000 chips.

It's all over for Martin Schneiders, who defended Jack Ten in the big blind before going all-in for 6 blinds on a Ten-high flop. The opener paid with ace-queen and found an ace on the turn to end the German Twitcher's run...

Julien Lecamus made a great encounter to take two big streets on the turn and river, with King Jack against Ten Ten on Ace Ten Queen 8 5 6 he now stands at 200,000 chips and changes tables in the process...

Bart Maes is up to 355,000 in chips, but he's no longer the tournament leader. And he's just been sent to the right of chipleader Jerrel Meyerhoven.

With Meyerhoven up to 455,000 chips, Manu Poznanski tells us about the climb. "There are two big moves, first he goes all-in on a King Queen 6 board and gets snapped by Ace King," comments Poznanski.

"He has a pair of 7s and makes the river 7, he was covered but climbs to 200,000 chips... eight hands later, in a blind fight, he tanked for 4 minutes on a 2 3 5 board with two clubs and a third club on the turn," continues the man who stands at 210,000 chips.

"He ended up calling with King Jack of clubs and his opponent turned over Ace 4 for the straight," concludes Manu, admiring the blows of fate and setups that propelled the Dutchman into the lead.

01:11

Top 100

Thomas Daix's elimination brought the Day 1E field down to 100 players with 16 minutes to go in the 10th and final level of play...

A few minutes later, the clock was paused and the last 8 hands were announced.

Julien Lauer, Markus Laufer, Bryan de Riddere and Steve Luxon, all of whom fell in the last few minutes, can register on Turbo 1F until 1.30 a.m.!

There's €365,000 in the prizepool with 20 minutes to go on this SuperSide WaSOP XII!

96 qualifiers on Day 1E, €366,000 to be shared on the SuperSide

Registration is closed on Day 1F Turbo, with 131 entrants, and with the 433 entries accumulated on the recently concluded Day 1E, attendance for the SuperSide WaSOP XII is officially at 1,318 entrants. Enough to generate a prizepool of €366,000!

At the end of the ten 50-minute levels of the penultimate of the six starting days, 96 players joined the 158 qualifiers from the first four sessions. 254 players have qualified for Day 2 on Monday July 31, starting at 2pm...
