Join us from 1pm for Day 1C of the €2,200 CPS Main Event, with a guaranteed €750,000 prizepool.

13:10

50 players from kick-off

As soon as the tournament kicked off at 13:00, 50 players were in the starting-blocks for Day 1C of the CPS de Namur Main Event, so the figures promise a good turnout.

As we all know, a minimum of 390 players is required to make the guarantee, and we're already up to 260 at 1.10pm, with a queue beginning to form at the entrance to the Circus Casino Resort.

Today, players will compete in 8 60-minute levels, for those lucky enough to qualify for Day 2. For the rest of us, there's always the option of re-entering on Day 1D Turbo, which kicks off at 8 p.m. sharp.

First outgoing (but it's not the one in the photo!)

Cyril Richard

We had to wait 40 minutes for the first outgoing of the day on Day 1C, and it was the work of Frenchman Cyril Richard, known to the community by his nickname "Cacyna".

The player flopped a full house with a pair of 8s in hand against Dennie Cordromp. On a 6-6-8 flop, both players saw each other as the Dutch player defended with K-6.

A king on the turn later and the fireworks could continue between the two men, both with full houses.

Cyril Richard, who will tell me afterwards that he's an active member of the Benny & Yu community, with a penchant for EPT live streams, got his tournament off to the best possible start, with two starting stacks already in front of him after 40 minutes.

14:00

93 players at the end of the first level

After an hour's play on Day 1C, the counter already shows 93 entrants to this Main Event and still only one elimination to deplore.

So who are the players on Day 1C?

The vast majority of the field is made up of regular players from the Circus Casino Resort in Namur, players we see at every event, and who are more used to playing tournaments with much more modest buy-ins, such as Gaëtan Lheureux, Bryan de Riddere, Quentin Destoky, Aliosha Staes and Renaud Hennes.

Piotr Nurzynski

There are also some big names like Piotr Nurzynski, winner of EPT Barcelona 2018 and already 3rd in yesterday's €4,400 High-Roller, or Tobias Peters, runner-up in yesterday's Mystery Bounty and the room's biggest winner with $3 million in career earnings.

This final day of registration is also a great day for the French, as the call of the weekend has driven them to Namur to hit the cardboard with their Belgian friends. Present today are Yoan Argence, Simon Bouaksa, Gilles Gauyacq, Mathieu Rigolot, Maxence Melin, Mercedes Osti and Arnaud Peyroles, while many others are expected to join the field during the course of the day.

Obviously, and even more so on a tournament with such a high buy-in, the Dutch are out in force, with no less than 20% of players from the Netherlands on this first list of entrants.

14:30

The difficulty of playing with Aces at the start of a tournament

Michael Ender

It's well known, but in tournaments with such a beautiful structure, it's easy to lose a lot of chips with big hands.

Michael Ender, 6th in yesterday's Mystery Bounty for €12,310 (€33,000 bonus), could have had a major headache if Bryan de Riddere hadn't seen a nasty river fall.

After Andrea Caizzi limps to 200 from the Lojack, Bryan de Riddere isolates to 800 from the button. Michael Ender 3-bets to 3,200 from the small blind and only the PokerOne player pays in position.

On the Tc-Td-Js flop, Michael Ender proposes a bet of 2,500. Bryan de Riddere quickly accepts.

The Jc turn prompts Michael Ender to check, then pay the 3,500 offered by Bryan de Riddere.

The Th river brings a full house on the board and both players quickly check.

Michael Ender returns Ac-Ad for the winning hand, Bryan de Riddere tries to figure out if a big cinderblock on the river would have foldered his opponent, had a 10 not hit the board.

From Michael Ender's reaction, it's clear that the bluff would probably have been called.

15:05

Yip Yip Hooray!

After two levels of play, the counter stands at 126 entries for Day 1C of the Main Event, and only 5 players have dropped a bullet in the process.

The last of them got a little hot against one of Namur's most regular players, Jean Yip.

It all starts with a 300 limp from Mario Van Ackeren at the beginning of the floor. It's overlimp twice before Jean Yip raises to 1,500 on the button.

It is paid for solely by Mario Van Ackeren.

On the Ad-Td-As flop, Jean Yip puts down a 5,000 chip in front of him and checks/calls.

The 3c turn doesn't change much and Jean Yip claims his opponent's remaining stack, around 23,000.

Just as it was time for the break, the German player took several minutes before agreeing to pay.

In all confidence, Jean Yip thought he'd be paid by a small Ace with his beautiful Ah-Jc. But Mario Van Ackeren was even worse off, as he accepted the Ks-Ts invitation.

With this move, Jean Yip climbs to 87,000 on this second level of the day.

15:25

New arrivals

Among the unnamed players who swelled the field on Day 1C during the second level of the day was a certain David Boyaciyan.

If that name doesn't ring a bell, you should know that ten years ago, he achieved a genuine feat by finishing runner-up at EPT Prague 2011 and 3rd the following year at the same event. At the same time, he also won the Amsterdam Master Classic for €382,000.

Also taking part in the Main Event were Théo Milioni (10th in this year's BPC), Jorden Verbraeken, Damien Hupé, Johnny Nedved, Rami Awad (all three on the same table), as well as Yann Nasser, Guillaume Navaro (runner-up in the BPC Namur 2022) Fabien Perrot and Nicolas Faure.

15:45

Big Bug

It almost looked like a bug, so suspicious did the numbers appear. But in the time it took to type a post during the first break of the day, the counter went from 128 to 154 players.

It seems that a contingent of French players arrived all together to register the tournament at the start of the third level of the day.

They include Miroslav Alilovic, Mathias Moutaoukil, Benoît Grobocopatel and Laurent Leclerc.

The prize-pool is already approaching the €700,000 mark, and the warranty is clearly in the crosshairs.

16:35

A good omen

I don't know if it's the arrival of a roofer that's got him trying bluffs, or if it's what he does all the time, but Gaëtan Leureux has just been caught red-handed in the midst of an attempted rip-off.

In a 4-way pot, Roland Gerga is the first to draw a 2,000 bet on the 7c-As-5c flop, in cutoff position. He is paid by Patrick Carvalho on the button and Gaëtan Lheureux in the big blind.

The turn Tc pushes Gaëtan Lheureux to take the initiative again, placing 6,000 in front of him. Only Roland Gerga accepts the invitation.

The river is a 3s and Gaëtan Lheureux presses the raise button again, for 13,000. His opponent, with 30,000 left in the stack, took a good minute before paying with Ah-Jc for top pair, while Gaëtan Lheureux was in the middle of a bluff with Qc-5d in his hand, with third pair turning into a flush draw on the turn.

The young reg from Namur drops to 40,000 after this move.

16:40

They didn't have time

As you'd expect, the number of eliminated players per level only increased on Day 1C of the Circus Poker Series Main Event.

Only one player had left on the first level of the day, 4 on the second and 10 on the third.

Among the players who will have to pass through the re-entry stage to become the first ever winner of a CPS Main Event are François Jaecque, Quentin Thavisouk, Danyel Boyaciyan, Antoine Vranken, Dylan Royer and Bryan de Riddere.

The last four on this list have already activated their re-entry option to put their second bullet in this story.

The counter already shows 176 players and we're getting close to the guarantee. Only 15 players left to register, and we've done it as we enter level 4 of Day 1C!

17:20

Abdel, my beautiful river

As I land at David Kahan's table, he raises to 1,000 UTG, a raise that doesn't make the players at his table want to run away, as three players will want to put more money in the middle.

His neighbor on the left raises the bid to 3,400 UTG+1. Abdel Lamrani cold-calls UTG+2. The floor goes to a German player who calls himself "MadMax" here in Namur. From the big blind, he decides to 4-bet to 12,000.

David Kahan escapes from this quagmire, discreetly showing me his King-Queen sweat, but not Abdel Lamrani, who decides to pay with his pair of 9s.

All the money goes on the 3x-4s-6c flop between the two men, the German player being the shorter of the two with around 40,000.

Abdel Lamrani is not in the best of positions with his 9d-9c, against Ad-Ah for the German player.

But a 9s falls on the river to give this gigantic pot to Abdel Lamrani, who climbs to 145,000.

On the same table, Nicolas Faure took a big pot from David Kahan by flopping a three of a kind when his opponent held a pair of Aces, but gave back a good portion of his chips a few minutes later by doubling up his opponent on an As-King corner flip against two Queens.

Selective table chip-count :

Abdel Lamrani 145,000
David Kahan 85,000
Nicolas Faure 35,000
Antoine Vranken 19,000

18:00

The guarantee is reached on the Main Event

At the second break of the day, the news is already official. We've just passed the €750,000 guarantee here at Circus Casino Resort in Namur, with 396 Main Event entries already counted, and still 4 levels left to register for Day 1C.

Dashboard :

Day 1A: 80 entries, 34 qualifiers, chipleader Mihai Stinca (246,000)
Day 1B: 123 entries, 56 qualifiers, chipleader Iurii Brechalov (294,500)
Day 1C: 193 entries (ongoing)
Day 1D: from 21:00

Although nowhere near the highest attendance ever recorded in Namur (which mainly takes place on smaller buy-ins such as the Winter Festival), this CPS Main Event could well become the 2nd largest prizepool ever distributed in Namur, after the BPC 2023 won by Omar Lakhdari, on which €1,266,388 was distributed to players.

The biggest prizepools in the history of the Circus Casino Resort de Namur :

The second break of Day 1C has just ended, and play resumes with 160 players and 194 entries, officially exceeding the guarantee.

Greg Fournier has just arrived and will start with 50,000 chips. Rami Awad, who has been present since the start, was all smiles when he told me that he had been "grinding 100 chips an hour since the beginning". The Egyptian Mystery Bounty finalist resumes with 50,400 chips.

18:30

Expected entries

For two days, we'd been seeing him in the list of players present, yet there was no trace of him in the room. Fabrice Somers finally made his appearance on Day 1C at the start of the 5th level.

At every break, Fabrice bursts a balloon at the entrance to the tournament hall.

Just like Omar Lakhdari, who is not giving up on this Main Event and has also just joined the field.

18:55

Miss-value or poker tournament?

Mathias Moutaoukil

7th in the Circus Cup a few days ago, Mathias Moutaoukil drew a tough table on this CPS Main Event, in the company of Damien Hupé, Rami Awad and Johnny Nedved.

He has just lost a big pot to the founder of Team Poker One.

In the 300/600 blinds (BB Ante 600), a player opens to 1,500 in early position. It's paid by Damien Hupé on the hijack. Mathias Moutaoukil raises to 6,500 from the cutoff. Only Damien Hupé pays the bet.

Both players check on the Tc-As-4h flop.

On turn 9d, Mathias Moutaoukil draws a 5,500 bet, which Damien Hupé simply pays.

The river is a 4s and Mathias Moutaoukil continues his aggression by quickly placing a bet at 22,500.

Damien Hupé

Damien Hupé thinks for barely ten seconds before putting the money in the middle to pay with 9h-9s for three of a kind.

Mathias Moutaoukil can show no better than Ad-Kc and falls to 50,000 after this move, while Damien Hupé climbs to 130,000.

So, miss-value or not? That's the debate at the table. Can Damien Hupé hope to get paid by less if he raises here on the river?

The founder of Team Poker One defended himself by saying that Mathias had two tens and two aces in his range. Some of the players at his table shouted the famous "Bon appétit! But Damien wouldn't budge. "He could easily have two tens or two aces.

If you'd like to get to know Mathias Moutaoukil a little better, I can't recommend the vlog he produced on the occasion of his deep run at the BPC Main Event. Three episodes are available on his Youtube channel. I don't want to spoil anything, but you should know that he often goes full house.

19:25

Morbee in orbit

Christophe Morbee

A crazy move has propelled Christophe Morbee to the top of the leaderboard on Day 1C, leaving Ferdinando d'Alessio and Simon Bouaksa on the sidelines.

Under the gun, Christophe Morbee opens to 1,300, Ferdinando d'Alessio just pays on the button and Simon Bouaksa completes his small blind.

There are three of them on the 2s-Kc-Ks flop, a flop that speaks to everyone.

Just imagine:

Kh-9h at Simon Bouaksa's

2c-2d at Ferdinando d'Alessio

Ah-Kd at Christophe Morbee

Christophe Morbee sends a small c-bet to 2,400, which Ferdinando raises to 6,000. Simon Bouaksa puts what's left in the middle, 14,500.

Christophe Morbee pays and Ferdinando d'Alessio decides to push his stack of 117,900 into the middle. Shortly covered, Christophe Morbee pays with his three of a kind but discovers he's going to have to chat against Ferdinando d'Alessio's full house.

And that's exactly what happens, as the dealer turns over an Ace on the river to give Christophe Morbee this gigantic pot, which climbs to 260,000 chips.

Ferdinando d'Alessio

Runner-up in this year's Estrellas Main Event (behind Lucien Cohen) and 4th in yesterday's Mystery Bounty, Ferdinando d'Alessio wasted no time in re-entering. And guess what? He landed at the same table he shared with the tournament's current chipleader.

21:45

Oh la la, Ohana!

Winner and runner-up of the BPC Namur Main Event, Omar Lakhdari and Tal Ohana share the same table at this CPS Main Event. Well, "shared", since the Israeli has just been sent to the rail quite badly.

It all starts with a 2,000 opening from Tal Ohana. Omar Lakhdari pays on the cutoff and Duc Tuan Tran squeezes to 12,000. He doesn't scare anyone away, and I can understand why, because Damien Hupé, also present at the table, tells me that "he 3-bets everything".

On flop 5c-9c-8c, Duc Tuan Tran quietly finishes the video he was watching on his phone and then quietly sends in a bet to 8,000.

Tal Ohana checks/raises all-in for 33,000. While Omar Lakhdari fools around wisely, Duc Tuan Tran doesn't, calling with Ad-Jc.

Tal Ohana looks disgusted to return his 6h-6d and I understand that the Asian player tells him he's ahead with his two overcards.

A harmless 8h falls on the 8h turn but it's a Jd that appears on the river and sends the runner-up of the BPC Main Event into the rail.

Duc Tuan Tran moves up to 160,000 after this move.

22:05

Always beautiful in Namur!

When Jérôme Sgorrano came to tell me that Maria Lampropoulos was in the room, playing this CPS Main Event, I first thought it was a big troll.

And yet, the winner of the 2018 PCA and PartyPoker Millions de Notthingham is well and truly present on Day 1C, at the table of Jorden Verbraeken and Benoît Grobocopatel, who has accumulated over $3.6 million in winnings on the live circuit.

We'll try to find out why she came to Namur. Has she chartered a jet to come and play only this tournament in Europe? Is she stopping off in Namur before flying to Prague?

In any case, between Piotr Nurzynski and Maria Lampropoulos, two EPT winners came to the Circus Casino Resort de Namur for this first big Circus Poker Series festival.

22:22

Start Again

Maxence Melin is back in the field of this €2200 CPS Main Event for a second blunder.

On the first, he played two crucial pots... two lost pots.

On the first he places a small blind 3-bet with 4 and 5 suited before 3-barrels all-in on a Jack 6 3 Queen Ten board, the turn opening a diamond draw.

Maxence tries to fold Arthur Thiriart but the latter calls a third on the flop, half-pot on the turn and with a flopped set of 6s, he goes nowhere river. In a bad way following this 100,000-chip hand, Maxence returns from the dinner break with 11,000 chips.

Long minutes later, he finally sends 9 blinds to the button with Ace 9 mismatched. The small blind wakes up with King Queen and pays to take him out!

The blinds are now 1000 - 1500 (1500) and it's already the final level of Day 1C. The table shows 136 players in the running for 229 entrants and an average of 84,000 chips...

22:29

A Demain

Down to 6,000 chips, Jorden Verbraeken pushes all in from the button with Ace 6... small blind Cornelis van Gent calls with Ace 5. "I take the split," Jorden laughs as the dealer flops a flop... but the turn 5 sends him back into the rail.

We're heading for Day 2, as Jorden tells us he'll be back on Friday December 1st at noon to play 1000 - 1500 (1500) with 33 blinds...

22:30

The bard's diary

Winner of yesterday's High-Roller for €60,000, Wouter Beltz had already dropped a bullet on Day 1C when I caught up with him today at Laurent Leclerc's table.

As usual, the man whom Benny & Yu affectionately called "the Bard" during their commentary for PokerStars on the EPT Barcelona, where Wouter Beltz had a deep run, tells anyone who will listen - and also those who don't - thousands of anecdotes of all kinds, from his tournament tales to his relationships with his family and his travels. He's a chatterbox, a source of laughter for many, but also a source of exasperation for many others.

When I arrive from him, he faces a 3,500 raise from Rob Hendrikx at the cutoff and discovers a pair of big blind 5s with 32 blinds in front of him.

He deems his hand sufficient to put everything in the middle and is almost snapped up by his opponent in possession of a pair of tens.

Nothing comes to save "the Bard" who therefore leaves this tournament and joins his wife present in the rail. "Finished already?" she tells him when he stands up after his elimination.

Maybe he'll put one back on tomorrow, who knows. In any case, we miss him already.

23:08

Last Hands

The organization has just announced the last three hands of the third of the four opening days of the CPS 2023 Main Event.

The table shows 117 players in the running for 231 entrants and an average of 92,000 chips, so we'll be back shortly with a full update on Day 1C...

23:25

Gin Rami

Rami Awad 's tournament came to an end against Omar Lakhdari, on one of the great classics of poker, pair of 9s against As-King for his last 15 blinds.

But the blow that really hurt him came a few minutes earlier against that devil Jean Yip.

On the button, Rami Awad opens to 3,500 with As-Ac. Jean Yip defends from the big blind.

Both players check the 6s-6c-8c flop.

On the 7c turn, Rami Awad places a 3,000 bet which Jean Yip checks/raises to 6,000. Rami smells trouble but pays with his overpair and flush draw.

On the Kc river, Jean Yip raises to 20,000. Rami Awad pays and is shown Tc-9c for a straight flush.

5th in yesterday's Mystery Bounty, Rami Awad will have to re-enter to continue his adventure in the CPS Main Event.

23:45

231 entries on Day 1C, Marco Sliva Valente chipleader

With 231 new entries on Day 1C, more than on Day 1A & 1B combined, the Circus Poker Series €2,200 Main Event has already far surpassed the €750,000 guarantee with 434 entries, pending official figures from Day 1D Turbo, and not forgetting that players can still register on the first two levels of Day 2.

Marco Silva Valente, chipleader on Day 1C

107 players managed to hold on to chips to validate their ticket for tomorrow. The player with the most chips was Marco Silva Valente from Luxembourg, with 261,000 chips in his possession at the end of the day.

Arthur Thiriart

Players who have raised tons today include Tom de Boom (247,500), Frank Kunen (226,500), Tobias Peters (222,500), Arthur Thiriart (211,000) and Miroslav Alilovic (202,000).

Damien Hupé

Also passing through were Christophe Morbee (191,000), Laurent Leclerc (181,500), Damien Hupé (170,000), Grégory Fournier (134,000), Nicolas Faure (128,000), Arnaud Peyroles (125,000), Danyel Boyaciyan (124,000), Quentin Destoky (119,500) and Omar Lakhdari (118,000).

Omar Lakhdari

BPC Main Event winner Omar Lakhdari told us about a magical move he played against an Asian player he'd been warming up to all day. The two players had been engaged in a battle of egos for a long time, when Omar decided to 4-bet all-in 60 blinds with a mismatched Jack-Dix and was called by 9-7 suited for a pot of 200,000 chips. Omar lost the move, fell to 35,000 and eventually climbed back above the average.

Maria Lampropoulos

The attraction of the day was clearly the Argentinian player Maria Lampropoulos, a divine apparition in the midst of the Namur bearded ladies, who came to feel the chips at the Circus Casino Resort after twice winning 7-figure sums in tournaments. She ended the day with 70,500 chips.

Also on Day 2 will be Jonathan Abdellatif, Benoît Grobocopatel, Frédéric Hébette, Johnny Nedved, Morgan Poisson, Aksel Aygun, Farid Azarkan, Yoan Argence, Pierre Tilmant, Maxence Melin, Djamal Boutaleb, Fabien Perrot, Gaëtan Lheureux and Andrea Caizzi
