Phil Hellmuth

Pro player

Nicknamed "The Poker Brat", Phil Hellmuth became the youngest player to win the WSOP Main Event in 1989 when he was just 25, beating the legendary Johnny Chan in heads-up play.

Since then, Phil Hellmuth has become a poker monster and holds the WSOP record with 16 bracelets in his possession, well ahead of Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan and Phil Ivey, all tied on 10 bracelets.

Sometimes considered controversial for his level of play by the new generation and known for his antics at the table, he never misses an opportunity to belittle his opponents and claim he's the best. "If it wasn't for luck, I think I'd beat everyone," he said in the early 2000s.

He is the only player to have won both the WSOP Main Event and the WSOP-Europe Main Event, which he won in 2012 at Casino Cannes-Croisette.

Occasionally invited to play cash games on TV shows, he has never shone in this format, largely preferring tournament play. He's been best known for Hold'em, although since 2011, when he was runner-up in the $50,000 Players Championship 8-game event, he's proved that he's just as comfortable playing the variants, winning 2 bracelets in Razz and one in 2-7 lowball.
