Reactions are pouring in on the social media channels of the Circus Casino Resort in Namur following the death of Pierre Neuville. The 83-year-old Belgian legend passed away, accompanied by his wife Claudine; Pierre had still taken part in the PokerStars Open Namur 2025 last summer...

After several years battling prostate cancer, Pierre had taken a step back from the game he had loved for so long… yet he still managed an extraordinary final hurrah by winning the 2024 Ranking at the venue where he had achieved his first result back in 2007. A regular at tournaments throughout the year, Pierre had one last flurry of success whilst trying to pass on his approach to the game… he triumphed in the televised final and struck a pose with his muse Claudine, who had always been by his side throughout a rich life both at the tables and beyond.

Finishing seventh in the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event for $1,203,293, Pierre Neuville paved the way for Belgian poker, amassing over $5 million in winnings at the tables! He also finished as runner-up for a WSOP bracelet in 2014 and 2016… A fan of live table action, Pierre notably built his career by stringing together online qualifiers on PokerStars for the European Poker Tour. On two occasions, Pierre fell at the final hurdle of the EPT, in 2009 and 2012, and he also qualified 23 times in a row for this unrivalled tournament… Pierre therefore launched his career in Namur in 2007 by finishing 31st in the first Belgian Championship!

Born in January 1943 in Belgium, Pierre discovered poker as a teenager, at the age of 15, before he came of age… his passion did not prevent him from rubbing shoulders with a whole host of personalities throughout his professional life. From Eddy Merckx to Kevin Costner, via a lifetime spent in the world of toys and games with Hasbro, Pierre lived life with passion – a true child at heart!

“What sad news – our friend Pierre Neuville, a brilliant businessman and world-class poker player, passed away this morning. RIP Pierre, and our deepest condolences to Claudine and the family!” commented Bernard de Breyne upon learning of the passing of this pioneer…

A fundraising page has been set up to support his wife; the Circus group extends its condolences to his wifeClaudine, his loved ones and his family.
